It is an abominable lie that Captain Reissig ever paid me anything for my compositions. I composed of those works for him as an act of friendship, because he was a then a cripple and aroused my sympathy –– In addition to this written statement, I declare that Herren Breitkopf & Härtel are the sole owners of the songs which I have sent them and for which Captain Reissig wrote the poems [Opus 75 #5 and 6, WoO 137].
